Painted Meadows Farms

Painted Meadows Farms raises rabbits, turkeys and ducks in Franklinville, New York. Painted Meadows sells its rabbit, turkey and duck meat, as well as fresh eggs every Saturday at the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market.

Painted Meadows Farms raises two heritage breeds of rabbit, the Chinchilla and the Silver Fox. We also raise three heritage turkeys, the Bronze, the Red Bourbon and the Royal Palm. Fresh or smoked turkey is available all year. Painted Meadows also raises four kinds of duck, the Rouen, the Indian Runner, the White Pekin and the Mascovey. Duck is available year round and is sold as a whole, legs or breast.

About Rabbit Meat

Domestic rabbit meat is lean, tender, white and fine-grained. Rabbit meat is higher in protein, rich in iron and potassium, while lower in fat, uric acid, cholesterol, sodium and calories than most meats. Rabbit is especially good for children and teenagers. Rabbit meat is also rich in vitamins B, PP and E, which make it great for anyone who leads an active lifestyle, or wants to build muscle. Protein is also good for the nervous system and protects cells from aging. Lean and tender rabbit meat is very easily digested, as 99% of the protein in rabbit is digestible.

Cooked rabbit tastes similar to chicken, although depending on the preparation it can be considered a delicacy with a taste all its own. Rabbit meat is always in season and can be prepared many different ways. It is one of the most versatile, healthy meats available, and many people include it in their diet as it meets many qualifications for stomach and heart patients.
